To enrich the lives of young people through a commitment to youth development and performance excellence, while entertaining and developing our local community and audiences worldwide.
What we do
Our focus is marching music arts: drum and bugle corps, color guards, drumlines, marching bands, and related performance programs for young people in our local community and beyond. We give youth a high-quality marching arts experience that develops musical skill, leadership, and character — and create opportunities to serve the community through performances at patriotic events, Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances, parades, and other local gatherings.
Why “Legion”
Marching music in America has deep roots with veterans. After World War I, returning service members brought drum and bugle corps home; the American Legion organized competitive contests nationwide and held the first national championship in Kansas City in 1921. Posts across the country sponsored senior and junior corps for decades, using the activity to promote patriotism, discipline, community pride, and Americanism.
Legion Performing Arts is a modern continuation of that legacy. Our name honors the historical significance of the American Legion in this art form — and the truth of the field: when a drum corps steps out to perform, they are many, but they are one. They are legion. We carry that name as a mark of respect for the veterans who shaped this activity and the values they built into it: excellence, teamwork, service, and love of country.
What we’re launching
In our first year, we will field one performance ensemble: Legion Drum & Bugle Corps, entering the SoundSport division of Drum Corps International for the 2027 season. Alongside the corps, we’re building educational camps and clinics and offering program consultations for band directors — so more students and school programs can access high-quality marching arts instruction.
